Brian 3.0 out of 5 stars I have a set of Boston A40's, and the surrounds were disintegrating. I removed them per the instructions with alcohol. It took a while and was a little messy, but took me about 20 minutes per speaker to remove the old surrounds. I test fit the new surrounds, and noticed right off that the outside of the surround was too large for the Boston A40's, so it would need to be trimmed. Doing this well is a bit slow and fiddly. There is not a big shoulder on the edge of the A40's to glue the surround to, so If you trim a bit too much, there might not be enough glue area for a secure seal. A couple areas I ended up trimming away more than I would have liked. Even so, I easily spent 10 minutes per speaker on this step. Next was glueing the surround to the cone. The images show a brush for spreading the glue, which I did not receive. I had a similar brush, and tried it.I tried just running a narrow bead, but doing so and not getting too much, was very difficult. I ended up with lots of glue staining the cone. Easily another 15 minutes per speaker. I let that dry overnight. Went to glue the outer portion of the surround to the frame. Again controlling the amount of glue is difficult, and I got too much, and it would ooze from the edge.
In a couple places I might have trimmed a small amount too much of the surround, and getting it to stick in those areas was difficult. Likely took about 10 minutes per speaker for this step. Upon drying I reinstalled the speakers in the cabinet. They sound fine, but the glue stains on the surrounds just don't look very good. Took about an hour per speaker of active work. The result just doesn't look very good in my opinion. On other speakers that are larger, this would likely be an easier job, and result in a better looking result.I used Simply Speakers glue I had left over from the other jobs and it turned out great. Some people may not like how quickly this glue dries, but I prefer it. The look afterwards is professional. I've seem some really ugly repair jobs and mine all look pretty close to factory. It's great to have a company like this that has so many parts and supplies. Also, their youtube videos are the ones I used to learn how to do this and they are complete and thorough. Good company all around. Yes, you can repair your speakers cheaper but this company has done a great job of supporting repairs and stocking a wide variety of inventory.It fit centered on the cone quite easily unfortunately trying to trim it yourself perfectly round and align the speaker foam properly into the frame with the instant dry cement is nearly impossible. It ripped while trying to reposition after 1 second of glue. If it was cut to fit from the factory or you have the ability to cut a near perfect circle you may have less trouble.Quite good instructions. Quick delivery. Just be Very careful with the screwdriver when you are reinstalling the speakers on the cabinet. I used the glue and a little scrap foam to patch the hole and seems fine. Speakers don't sound rattly any more. I used this for Boston Acoustics A40's.Sound is good, not a technical audiophile.The instructions are much easier to follow if you watch the videos from Simply Speakers first.

So, in saying that, is it better to look for a good deal on new speakers OR are the vr-m series worth paying good money because they were so good. We will assume of course what I am looking at in the vr-m is in excellent condition and has had limited use.
