The filter must have adequate flow capacity for the specific installation. The filter has to be kept clean to be effective in providing clean compressed air to the tool. Other problems with the gun are that the sleeve is too loose for the staples so you get overlapped staples. Overall a bad product by Stanley is compounded by the fact that they went with a cheap staple.I have the bostitch floor nailer as well. This is smaller, lighter, tool, with a thinner gauge fasteners. It is great for exterior pieces of flooring. For example with large nailers, the clip doesn't give you as much clearance so if you don't have one of these you have to toe-in quite a few pieces with a brad or finish nailer.
The tinner gauge fasteners also keep flooring-tongues from splitting. For this reason I prefer to use this tool on the exterior of rooms and pieces that need extra fixing if for example you are working on a warped floor staples in conjunction with nails can prevent squeeking and creaking. Another benefit of this over a nailer is you don't need to hit it with a mallet, you just pull the trigger so there is less wear on the tool. So this tool takes a lot less effort to use than a floor nailer. My petite wife can easily use this, and help when we are doing flooring with the big floor-nailer. Also this is much cheaper than a floor nailer in terms of cost. Bostitch makes great air tools. They give this a 7-yr warranty, but you wont need it if you oil the tool before each use. I have two of the three spaces that I am re-flooring complete and have been happy with the stapler - if you're a pro, I would guess the higher quality 18 ga is likely a better choice.It made me want to shoot myself in the eye with it but don't worry, it would probably misfire or jam so I'd be ok. Tried using it to install engineered hardwood flooring. I literally could not get it to staple a full board down before it misfired or jammed. Tool was set up correctly and in fact that was the only bright spot about this tool was the easy set up. When it actually fired a staple the tool was ok. The staple set correctly and did not split the wood tongue. Varying the pressure as well as changing hoses did not help. You could actually tell by the sound of the previous staple fire that the next staple was going to be a dud. I own a Bostitch framing nailer, finish nailer and brad nailer so I am not a Bostich hater. I was seriously wishing harm to the designer of this tool.

Although it was brand new, the model was out of date; ie, some improvements were made in later models. Therefore, when I tried to use the gun, it always jammed. I had to rent another gun to get the job completed. I have the gun being rebuilt by a Bostitch dealer. Hopefully, it will be covered under warranty services. I am frustrated with the situation. My warning to everyone is: If the deal seems too good to be true, you're probably going to be taken to the cleaners. The only bright spot will be: If the repairs are covered by the warranty and the nailer works, then I'll have a nice gun to install hardwood floors in the future. But I cannot recommend purchasing Bostitch Nailers on line. If you do purchase online, you're probably going to receive an out-of-date model.It is a little quirky to get the staples seated properly, but you just have to get used to it, and also to accept you're going to need to use a nail set on some here and there.Easy to adjust. The down side is frequent jams but easy to clear. Not sure if it might be an issue with the staples themselfs.If the gun is not stable, and there is movement during the shot, it can peel the leg on the next staple. 2 - it likes long continuous groups of staples. When the staples break into smaller segments in the staple magazine, the staples can move more than is desired and this can lead to a jam. Prevent staple breakage by handling the gun with respect. 3 - it likes air volume - even though my compressor meet all the criteria listed in the manuals, I found that I had the best performance when the compressor had just recharged.
