Your considering the Yamaha 1200 or 2200. I was able to program the 2200 remote to work all my stuff.If you have a little more to throw away, you could also look for a good center instead of making a bookshelf do the work. Bose speakers won't be good for HT in your situation. You're welcome to try out the solution piecemeal though - and stick with the setup you like. Get 3-way or 4-way floor-standers first (decent bass), and think about placement of the other satellites. You do NOT want to bypass the amplification supplied by Bose; it includes equalization and compression stages needed to make those little satellites sound good, and keep them from bursting into flames when you 'pump up the jams.' BTW, I'm a HiFi guy myself, with no love lost for Bose, but I'll bet that system really does sound quite nice for 'background' music in your environment. Like, when one cares about sound quality more than a fake, artificially tuned and artificially widened surrounding sound with no highs and no lows.
