The freezer temperature should be set between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -15C) for the ice maker to work properly. If the freezer temperature is too high, ensure that the condenser coils are clear of debris and the condenser fan is working properly. In addition, check to see if frost has accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, part of the defrost system has likely failed. 02 - Water Inlet Valve The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to check for power to the water inlet valve. If t. he water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve.

Since many of the ice maker components are not sold separately, you may need to purchase and replace the entire ice maker assembly. Before replacing the ice maker assembly, check the water inlet valve, water line, and fan. If none of these parts are at fault, and the freezer temperature is at least 15 degrees Fahrenheit, replace the ice maker assembly. When the thermostat or sensor on the icemaker tray reaches about 15 degrees Fahrenheit, the motor cycles to release the ice cubes. At the end of the cycle, the icemaker module sends power to the water inlet valve to refill the tray with water. If the icemaker module is defective, the ice maker won’t make or dispense ice. If the icemaker module has ejector blades, check to ensure that ice cubes are not stuck in the blades. There are usually test points in the module that a technician can use to further diagnose problems with the module. The water inlet valve supplies water to the ice and water dispenser. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to function properly. Check the water flow and test the pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi. 06 - Door Switch The door switch turns off the ice and water dispenser when the refrigerator door is open. If the door switch fails, the dispenser will not turn on. To determine if the door switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the door switch does not have continuity when activated, replace it.

In 1933, when Bosch introduced its first refrigerator, it featured a revolutionary state-of-the-art design with its rounded drum shape. And modern Bosch refrigerators continue the company's longstanding commitment to excellence. But even these well-made appliances may experience a little operational glitch from time to time. But if consumers cannot resolve the issue with their refrigerator, they always have the backup plan of contacting the company for help. If the temperature has been too warm, check the temperature again two hours after turning it back on after the five-minute shutoff period. If the temperature has been too cold, wait 24 hours before rechecking it. As refrigerant flows through the condenser coil, the coil dissipates heat. But if this coil is dirty, it's unable to get rid of this excess heat effectively; as a result, the refrigerator must work harder to keep the contents cool. Remove the grille cover plate (also called a kick plate) for the condenser coil, which typically is at the bottom of your refrigerator; check your user manual for your model's location. Using the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner, remove all the dust, pet hair or other debris that may be lodged around the coil. Replace the cover plate and don't forget to restore power to your refrigerator. You may need a plumber or refrigerator technician to check these for you.

As a heads-up, when you do replace the water filter, discard all the ice cubes that are produced in the first 24 hours or let the water dispenser run for five minutes and discard that water. Ideally, the freezer temperature should be set at 0 degrees F. When this temperature eases up to only 10 degrees, the ice maker's efficiency is decreased. Have the product number (E-Nr.) and production number (FD) handy to help the customer service representative find a solution. You can find these numbers on your fridge's rating plate, which typically is located on the upper right side wall of the refrigerator compartment or above the top freezer drawer on the right side wall. Consult your Owner's Manual for instructions on turning the icemaker ON or OFF on your model. On is at the top of the switch, while OFF is at the bottom. This type of icemaker is found on many different style refrigerators. To turn on the icemaker, set the power switch to I (ON). When the icemaker is turned on, the green light will come on. To turn OFF the icemaker, set the power switch to O (OFF). Turning the icemaker OFF slide the paddle back under the icemaker. When your ice bucket is full, the paddle is also under the icemaker, since the ice in the full bucket keeps it from springing forward. This icemaker is primarily found in bottom freezer and French door refrigerators, though it can also be found in other styles as well. To turn ON the icemaker, slide the switch over so that the paddle is extended out past the icemaker. To turn the icemaker OFF, slide the switch so the paddle is under the icemaker. Turning the icemaker OFF does not power it down; the green LED light will remain on when the icemaker is turned OFF. Wire Feeler Arm: Non-electronic icemakers have a metal wire feeler arm on the side of the icemaker. This style is found primarily on older top freezer and side-by-side refrigerators. To start the icemaker, lower the feeler arm to the ON (down) position.

March 11, 2018 Categories Bosch Ice Maker Refrigerator Help Water Dispenser Tags Is Your Bosch Refrigerator’s Ice or Water Dispenser Not Working. Your Bosch refrigerator is one of the hardest working appliances in the home and something you probably can’t live without. The first thing you should do before attempting any repairs, disconnect power and turn off the water supply for safety reasons. Follow these simple tips to get your Bosch refrigerator ice and water dispensers working properly: Check the water filter When the water filter is clogged, it may cause no water at all or very slow water dripping from the dispenser. To maintain proper water flow, change the filter at least once in 6 months. Once you have replaced the water filter, test the dispenser for free water flow. Check if the water pressure is sufficient The home may have low water pressure. To operate properly, the water inlet valve requires from 20 to 120 psi. To help determine this, shut off the water supply, disconnect the supply line from the inlet valve, and hold the line over a bucket. Turn the water supply back on and observe whether or not there is a strong flow of water jetting out of the line. A weak flow indicates a problem with the water line or the water supply valve.

Make sure there is no air in the line If your Bosch refrigerator has been recently installed, there may be air in the line. Push the water dispenser lever down for 3 minutes. For this period, the water reservoir will fill up completely. If water still does not dispense, make sure the water supply line is connected to the refrigerator properly and the water pressure meets the requirements for your refrigerator model. You can find instructions in the user manual. If further assistance is needed, call to schedule an appointment with our professional refrigerator repair technician. Make sure the water supply tube is not frozen A frozen water supply tube leading to the icemaker tray or the water dispenser can also impede dispenser functions. You can heat the supply tube by heating it with a hairdryer, but be aware that a frozen supply tube is usually caused by insufficient water pressure or a defective inlet valve. Check if the water line valve is open For refrigerator to receive water, the water line valve to your refrigerator should be completely open. Denver Appliance Pros can help you. Call us to schedule an appointment with one of our professional repair technicians. He will diagnose your Bosch refrigerator and fix the problem at the soonest possible time. Possible faulty hardware that could be causing issues. Faulty dispenser switch The dispenser switch sends voltage to the dispenser. The switch, actuated by the dispenser lever, could be faulty. Depending on the model, you may be able to use a multi-meter to test the switch for continuity a continuous electrical path present in the switch. If the switch tests negative for continuity, it will need to be replaced. Defective ice dispenser control board If all of the dispenser functions are disrupted, then the ice maker control board itself may be defective. While the board cannot be easily tested, you can inspect it for signs of burning or shorted out component.

Malfunctioning door switch The door switch disables the ice and water dispenser when the refrigerator door is open. A malfunctioning door switch may prevent the dispenser from operating even when the door is closed. As with the dispenser switch, you can use a multi-meter to test the door switch for continuity to determine if the switch has failed electrically. Faulty water inlet valve The water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. The inlet valve can fail both mechanically and electrically. A mechanical failure could be caused by the build-up of mineral deposits, preventing the valve from opening. If this happens, the valve will need to be replaced. Trying to clean out an old valve is not recommended due to the risk of part failure after repair. To determine if the inlet valve has failed electrically, use a multi-meter to test the valve solenoid coils for continuity. If one or more of the coils test negative for continuity, the inlet valve will need to be replaced. Defective main control board A defective main control board could result in the ice or water dispenser not working. As with the dispenser board, you can inspect the main board for signs of burning or a shorted out component and replace it with a new one provided all of the other dispenser components are working properly. We have identified the most common things that might be causing your Bosch refrigerator not to work properly, but there are other parts that could be at fault as well. Do not hesitate to call us and schedule a Bosch refrigerator repair appointment. According to research from the spruce website, you can reduce the amount of water you use in your home using the water dispenser. If you pay for water by the gallon, a water dispenser will eliminate running the faucet for several seconds to draw cold water. Save your money and improve water quality with your properly working water dispenser.

Try these simple troubleshooting techniques and fixes first to save yourself money and frustration. Ice makers fail. It's an unfortunate reality of owning a refrigerator with an ice maker. On the bright side, ice makers are also relatively simple machines that, for the most part, all operate the same way. And you may be able diagnose and repair a faulty ice maker yourself before forking over cash for an expensive service call. Here's how to fix some common ice maker problems. When ice is not ejecting If you find ice inside the ice mold, it means your ice maker is receiving water and the problem likely isn't with the water supply. Instead, it's most likely a mechanical or electrical problem. Cause: When moving things around in the freezer, it's not uncommon to accidentally nudge the control arm into the off position, which halts production of ice. Fix: This is an easy fix. Locate the metal control arm and move it to the down or on position. Cause: If the control arm is in the on (down) position and the mold is filled with ice, the problem likely lies with the motor, gearbox or electrical connection. Fix: Start by making sure all electrical connections are properly seated. Slide the refrigerator out from the wall, turn off the water supply valve and disconnect it from power. Locate the quick release plug on the back wall inside the freezer. Unplug the connection it and reconnect it to ensure it's fully connected. Manually remove any remaining ice from the mold by adding some water and letting it sit for a minute. The ice will begin to melt and should be easier to remove. Restore power to the refrigerator and lift the control arm to the off position.

Lower the control arm back down and wait for approximately 10 seconds for the solenoid to engage and fill the mold with water. Wait three to four hours for the ice to freeze and see if the ice now ejects. If not, it's likely that you will need to replace the motor or gearbox. When it's not making ice at all If your ice maker isn't producing ice at all or is producing crescents or cubes that are smaller than usual, it's typically indicative of a clog somewhere along the supply line. Cause: A common cause for a clog is frozen water in the line. Fix: To repair a frozen line, slide the refrigerator and unplug it. Locate the shut-off valve, typically underneath the sink or behind the refrigerator. Turn the valve to the closed or off position. Fill a turkey baster with warm water and pour the water over the water line. Alternatively, you can defrost the water line with a hair dryer or by letting the refrigerator sit unplugged for upward of two hours. Restore power to the refrigerator and listen for the water supply to fill the ice mold. If the clog is anything but translucent, consult with a professional for help removing the clog. Cause: There is also a possibility that the water filter for the ice maker is clogged. Fix: Locate and replace the water filter. Filters for ice makers are typically located inside the refrigerator (to keep them from freezing). When cubes are too big or small Cause: If the ice crescents are too big or there is no clog and they're still too small, chances are, the ice maker just needs a little adjustment. Fix: To adjust how much water the ice mold is filled with each cycle, first remove the cover from the ice maker. It's the white plate on the frontmost part of the ice maker assembly and it should pull off rather easily. If you're having difficulty removing it, use a flat head screwdriver to gently pry it away from the housing. Under the cover, you should see a screw and spring assembly, along with a plus and minus indicator.

This controls the dosing for water. Screw in (toward the minus symbol) to decrease the amount of water per dose and out (toward the plus) to increase the amount of water per dose. Take measurements at different heights and both sides—and do the same for the depth of the fridge—to be sure a new fridge will fit completely in the space allotted. Finally, and especially if you are moving up in size with your new fridge, measure the entryways to your kitchen and your home. It’s no good buying a new fridge if you can’t actually get it through the door. As noted, manufacturers place a lot of emphasis on the internal cubic feet measurement. We recommend that you put this low on your list of criteria. For one, a good layout of drawers and shelves is more important than sheer volume. For another, there’s no standard for how the different manufacturers measure this, so there’s no way to compare them. But as a rule of thumb, a family of four can fit the essentials into an 18-cubic-foot fridge. For each additional person in your household, you’ll want another two cubic feet. Almost any 36-inch, standard-depth fridge will have 24 cubic feet or more of space—plenty even for a big family. How to choose the right door style After dimensions, it’s time to figure out which door style is best for you. French doors are currently the most popular, but if you have space constraints or are on a budget you may want to choose a different style. The four main refrigerator-door styles. Often, your lifestyle and kitchen space determine which is best for you. If you’d like specific model recommendations for the following door styles, see our full guide to the best refrigerators. French door Photo: LG French-door models have a bottom-mounted freezer that opens like a drawer, and two half-width doors on the refrigerator section. This is the best style for most people, according to every bit of industry data and every salesperson we talked to. They typically range from 30 to 36 inches wide. Our favorite is the 36-inch-wide Whirlpool WRF535SMHZ.

Our pick Whirlpool WRF535SMHZ 36-inch, French door Stripped-down but solid, the Whirlpool WRF535SMHZ is reliable, efficient, and quiet. Read more about the Whirlpool WRF535SMHZ in The Best Refrigerators. You should consider a French-door fridge if you: Eat mostly fresh produce, deli, and dairy items. That describes most people: The average person opens the fridge five to seven times more often than the freezer, according to Mike Eveland, lead designer and engineer at BlueStar Refrigeration (a maker of high-end fridges), so a French-door fridge is often the most practical. With the fridge section entirely at waist-to-eye level, go-to items like fruits and vegetables, deli slices, milk, and juice are kept in easy reach. Don’t mind a less-organized freezer. French-door freezers tend to have very little shelving; usually they consist of just one or two big, tublike drawers. Some people find that they lose items in these tubs. If you eat a lot of boxed, frozen goods, a side-by-side or top-freezer fridge may be better. Often store wide dishes or containers. Pizza boxes, large baking sheets, and full-size turkeys are more likely to fit into a French-door fridge or freezer than into a narrower side-by-side. Are limited by your kitchen space. A French-door freezer pulls out straight, rather than swinging open, so it isn’t constrained by a wall on either side of the unit. The double doors of the fridge extend only half as far as a single full-width door when opened, meaning this style can work better in narrower spaces. This is about as low as you can go for a 36-inch French-door refrigerator, and will get you a no-frills model. Side-by-side Photo: GE Side-by-side fridges are split vertically, with the freezer on the left and the refrigerator on the right. Most people will be happier with a French-door fridge—several salespeople we spoke with said that they outsell side-by-sides “at least” 10 to 1. Side-by-side models typically range from 33 to 36 inches wide.
