You can easily create the desired effect sound simply by selecting the preset setting for the function (effect) you wish to use. The VF-1 provides a Category Search function that lets you select a category so that only the patches in that category are displayed. By using this function, you can view only the patches of the currently selected category, and rapidly find the patch you want. For details refer to “Using MIDI to Operate the VF-1” (p.122). Section 1. Producing Sound. You can tune your instrument quickly without having to change connections. The built-in tuner can display the note names, and also allows you to adjust the standard pitch and the output level during tuning. The internal memory of the VF-1 contains 400 patches. You can easily create new effect sounds simply by selecting these settings and combining them. This is called the Quick Setting function. This function is convenient when you wish to use effects with similar settings in two or more patches. The controller that will affect each parameter can be specified independently for each patch. Settings Use the following procedure to make settings. Make these settings as appropriate for the situation or setup in which you are using the VF-1. OFF: The direct sound will not be output. About the algorithm list How an algorithm is organized The algorithm determines the type of effects and the structure of the parameters that create the effect sound. The MOD (Modulation) settings allow you to use guitar synth, slicer, or harmonist etc. MOD: MODULATION lets you select one of the following effects.

The SFX (special effects) settings allow you to use an acoustic simulator, bass guitar simulator, or pickup simulator etc. SFX lets you select one of the following effects. MOD: MODULATION lets you select one of the following effects. You can use effects such as acoustic and anti-feedback to create a fully-produced acoustic sound.It provides a wide variety of effects ranging from basic sounds, to special effects using a ring modulator or pitch shifter. After using the equalizer to adjust the input sound, you can use chorus and reverb to create spacious reverb. In this Algorithm, what you have set with the DIRECT MIX (p.46) will have effect. 4BAND EQ (Equalizer) EFFECT OFF, ON. You can specify how the reverb depth will be affected by the input level. The position can be specified by the RSS (2CH) Azimuth and Elevation. 4BAND EQ (Equalizer) EFFECT OFF, ON LOW EQ.

FX (EFFECT) LEVEL This parameter adjusts the effect level. FX LEVEL (effect level) This adjusts the volume of the effect sound. DIR LEVEL (direct level) This adjusts the volume of the direct sound. ROTARY This parameter simulates an old-fashioned rotary speaker, which added undulations to the sound by rotating the speaker as it played. RSS (2ch) RSS (Roland Sound Space) is an effector that creates a three- dimensional sonic field. RSS can let you orient the sonic image at a position above, below, before, behind, or to one side or the other of the listener. However if the BPM value is low, the effect will synchronize to twice or four times the BPM.
TAPE ECHO201 This echo effect simulates the sound from Roland’s well- known RE-201. MODE (mode selector) This is used to select the different delay times (short, middle, and long) combination of three playback heads. I believe when you're in the tuner mode and you hit Parameter Right, it'll bring up a Tuner volume deal and you can set it to mute while you're tuning. The tuner works well for bass. It's recommended that when you're running it in the FX loop, you use the rear input and set the switch to -20 db. The VF-1 sounds really good, and the variety of effects is pretty staggering. You'll find that you don't use some of them 'cause they're just not practical with bass (the dancy-remix patches and Vocoder patches), and with all multi-effects, they take time to tweak and dial them in perfect. The presets are basically showcases to display the power and versatility of the unit, but don't quite work in the real world without some tweaking. Like I keep saying, though, this is the same with all multi-effects processors.I've converted over to using a Lexicon MPX G2 and I couldn't be happier. The VF-1 is an excellent effects box, but the G2 is just a little bit better. The VF-1 is reasonably intuitive, but it sure wouldn't hurt to have a copy of the manual.I love my VF-1. I play a 7 it's great being able to go instantly from bass oriented sounds to more guitar-like sounds. The exact height on the list will have to be figured out. My problem with using the RBI effects loop in parallel is getting muted tuning.
That's the only feature that the RBI is missing for me to be completely satisfied with its feature set. Either way, you're missing out on those Lexicon verbs. Apart from reverbs and delays, all other effects on mx200 sounded so weak that at the beginning I thought the device was broken. Then I just understood they are like this, totally unuseable.The MX200 needs to be run in parallel and fed a very hot signal (light up those LEDs) on the front. The MX is worth picking up used for 50 bucks or so.
