The game is fairly straightforward: you play as a gladiator (whom you get to name) during the Roman era, with different stats in the following: You and a CPU opponent take turns choosing moves such as Walk Forward, Lunge, etc. In close quarters, you can choose to take a Quick attack (easy to do damage), a Normal attack, or a Power attack (hard to do damage, but heavy damage when dealt). Swords and Ranged Weapons are unlocked in correspondence to your Agility, while Axes and Bashing Weapons correspond to your Strength. You unlock a new weapon for every 3 Agility and 3 Strength, respectively. The majority of the strategy is choosing your moves in the Arena. The version online that I found only went up through three tournaments, so I typically would have some short fun with the game and then be done with it. See, the Swords that you are able to unlock at higher levels do some extremely brutal damage (the highest-level sword deals 627 damage for a Power Attack, the most in the game), so it became clear that if I unlocked a weapon, quickly, with high-damage potential and enough Attack to at least give myself decent odds at landing a killing blow in one shot, I would be at an advantage. Being able to run around the board and shoot my opponent from a distance to lower his armor without even putting myself in range of being critically hurt gave me an additional advantage.

Had the Save feature worked, I could have played matches extremely loosely and with little regard for my actions because if I died, no worries. I could just restart from my last match. At what point is not having a Save feature basically torture despite the benefit of realism. Is it dependent on how much content there is in the game. Swords and Sandals 2 doesn’t have a whole lot of changing locations or environments in it, nor does it have a lot of overworld exploring or backtracking where a player might get stuck. So many games feature the spectre of death in their narratives, but very few of them evoke a feeling even close to it in real life, because you, as the player, know that even if you die, you can just try again from a fairly close checkpoint. My playthrough of Swords and Sandals 2 wasn’t literal life and death, but knowing that Jean Valjean (the name of my character) would be lost forever with one wrong move gave a level of urgency and focus that otherwise would not have been there. Walking next to an opposing gladiator will allow the enemy to get a hit in on you, as that leaves you vulnerable. Never do this if your turn is up and you’re going to be placed in front of the enemy with your next move. Instead, play defensively and stall for time. That would mean resting to recover your health and essence, or taunting your opponent.
What you want here is for your opponent to move first, so that YOU can draw first blood. Starting off, your swords do 20 percent more damage to flesh, and are best-used against squishy opponents with light armor. Clubs are capable of doing 20 percent more damage to armor, and are therefore best against enemies with heavy armor. Axes have a 10 percent higher chance of connecting on a critical hit, so use these if you’re more of a crit hit gambler. Polearms are best for players who like attacking from afar and not moving around a lot. Lastly, bows are used for ranged attacks. Each of those weapons may be better choices depending on different opponents, so make sure you check each opponent’s stats and use that information to choose the right weapon. Stock up on potions once you’re done defeating the dopey free duel opponents, and use them whenever you’re in a tight spot and up against an enemy you can’t quite beat just yet. You can do that by investing some skill points (but not a lot of them) into Charisma. With more Charisma, items in the Shoppe get cheaper, and you also end up earning more gold and XP if you win in the duels. And if your gladiator dies in battle, you can enjoy a better chance of reviving your character without having to pay gold. It does pay to have Charisma, so don’t ignore it when allocating stat points to your gladiator. Once you’ve reached that specific level, the tournament will be free to join, and participate in at any time. And while you will not get experience points for completing the free duels, you will still get gold. That caveat of not getting any XP means you shouldn’t rush into the tournaments just because they’re free to join; you may, in fact, want to keep fighting more free duels so you can grind for more currency and afford some high-end weapons and armor. And take part in the more difficult duels, as harder fights mean more earnings if you win!

We just recommend starting out to try to stick to a plan so you have a reliable strength to fall back on. Swords deal 20 more damage to flesh, so use them against lightly armored opponents. Axes have a 10 increased chance to critically hit.
Clubs deal 20 more damage to armor, so use them for heavy armor targets. Polearms have the longest reach out of all the weapons, so use them if you like keeping your opponents at bay. Bows let you attack from a range. Study your opponent’s stats and bring the right weapon! Once you do this, the tournament is open and you can enter at any time you wish. You can still do free duels but they stop rewarding you with experience. However, you are still rewarded with gold so do not feel rushed to do the tournaments as soon as they open. Keep fighting in the free duels for more gold. The harder the duel is, the more gold you’ll get out of it. Once you’re able to start taking down the free duel opponents easily, we recommend stocking up on the potions.Charisma makes things cheaper in the shop and earns you more gold and experience from duels. Another thing is that if your gladiator is slain in glorious battle, you will have to roll for a chance to resurrect without a gold penalty.
