I was disappointed to see that both of these companies didn't offer a manual for this car yet. It's such a popular car so you would think they would. This is pretty much the only manual there is for the time being and it's EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! It's worth it though. I posted a few pics of mine. As you can see it is very thick and a very good quality hardcover book that will last. The first 20 or so pages are full color with diagrams of various major components of the car. The rest of the thousand or so pages have very detailed black and white photographs with arrows to show what the narratives are explaining. There are drawings too.
For example, it shows step by step photographs to change your brake pads, but there are drawings that show clutch replacement. This isn't a huge issue though because the drawings are very well done. I would have posted pics of actual pages, but I'm sure the publisher wouldn't be too happy about that. Check their website for excerpts. The bottom line. I was nervous paying so much money for a manual when I have never used one from this company. Don't be. I guess I would expect them to not be able to include everything as there are limitations on space, but this felt more like an engineer's guide than a mechanic's reference. If you are not an experienced mechanic and were hoping to get greater explanation or detail on some things you may find it insufficient for your purposes.Wiring diagrams etc are only for vehicles built after May 2005.I have a TDI and I'd hoped that getting this book would give me the information I needed to be able to perform repairs that the dealerships were raking us through the coals on. Don't get me wrong, there is a great deal of information in this book. I was able to get part numbers and an understanding as to where and how specific portions of the car are setup. One thing I was hoping for was a little more detail as to how to replace parts.
The book provides great detail to how the break system is setup, and I was able to find the correct part numbers. Although it's not like the ABS module is directly accessible. I was hoping for a break down of what needs to be removed in order to replace the part. Overall I'm still happy with the book, and since I have two TDI VW's in the year range for this book I'm sure I'll get my money's worth (I'll have saved a significant amount of money if I can perform the fix mentioned).I've used it to take out my transmission, repair my windshield wiper pump, and fix my axles. It covers diesel as well as the 2.0 turbo and the 2.5 five cyl., and auto and manual transmissions. It breaks down disassembly processes by component so it's easy and consistent to follow. Breaks down procedures and diagrams also by year range (took me a while to figure this out in the fuse diagrams). It will pay for itself with the first repair. I take mine to the U-Pull It yard to make sure I'm getting the right parts and to get them out in one piece without destroying everything around it. With this and the iCarsoft Diagnostic Tool VAWS V2.0 you can do almost anything.I liked haynes better because they used actual photographs in their books rather than drawings. I love the book.I've owned numerous VW cars and have always referred to a Bentley service manual for everything from head gasket replacement to engine rebuild to transmission rebuild. I've never been disappointed in the content. I had tried other publisher's service manuals for Volkswagen cars and they just don't compare. If you are a DIYer with Volkswagen cars do yourself a favor and get a Bentley service manual. While this A5 manual is impressively thick, it doesn't get five stars from me because it is lacking a few key items: -09G transmission filter replacement (specified by VW for 40k mile service) -Front control arm replacement -Engine coolant sensor replacement for 2.5l -No engine rebuild infoCovers too many variants of motor, also completely left out thermostat replacement for 2.0 FSI BPY Engine which was why I bought it.

Quite Frankly 3.0 out of 5 stars It gives a list, but the list means nothing without a diagram to reference.I'm somewhat mechanically-abled but don't have much experience working on cars and the level was instructions for these two simple procedures was great.
I plan to use it for basic maintenance like oil, brake pads, etc but the book does include more complicated tasks like work inside the engine system. The images are pretty low resolution, like something out of an old black and white newspaper, but the number of images and labels on the them make up for it. If that's not enough for you, there are plenty of free videos and forum posts on the internet to supplement this book. I used CarCareKiosk and some youtube videos.No fuse diagram. No dtc code to repair correlation. Not even EPC repair diagnostics which is surprising because it's such a common code when accelerator or cruise control malfunctions. Haines suggests just take it to a shop. The ink is faded so reading the text takes real work but I guess Haynes saves 80 cents for ink. Same issues with photos.My advise is not to buy itOnly gripe is Im tired of seeing pics inside these manuals that are not specific to the car model of which it is covering. Often I see the same pics used in manuals from this company used in other model car manuals. Some of the generic pics look like they are from 1950. All in all not a huge deal however makes the books seem old and outdated. There is a lot to be said about keeping products current especially when paying prices that are current.; )The manual has helpful in the sense of checking the electric diagrams but unfortunately it doesn't tell you the location of this relay, which the technician figured out that it was under the panel.I have a 2007 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition and there as things about my car not mentioned in the book. Photos are mostly dark and some hard to see. Instructions jump around, you have to have patience reading this book and looking for your issue. There are other books out there that are far much better. Try Youtube:-)I have there manual for the older Passat and I has a lot more detail. Find myself having to resort to the internet much more for stuff that should be in the repair manual.
But We bought this specific manual for a 2008 Jetta City and found it not as applicable as expected. I believe the manual for 2004 Jetta would be more applicable to the 2008 “City” version. Clarification in manual title and applicability would have been helpful. Perhaps this review can help someone else.Even though it says it covers 2008 VW Golf, my 2008 VW Citi Golf is not covered at all.
