Friday evening went riding, rode for a good hour or so everything was fine. I went to take a short ride to the restroom (less than 100 yds away) and all of the sudden everything flickered and then just died out. Accompanying the problem I noticed the killswitch completely locked up. Once daylight hit took the killswitch apart to find it had shorted out and melted the plastic inside. Has anyone else had anything similar to this and if so what did you do to fix the situation. I have a new killswitch on the way to replace the obvious problem but was wondering could there be a bigger issue at hand. We tested with a voltage meter to make sure everything was still getting power from the battery and as far as we could tell it was.Anyone know what the fuse terminal marked UNSWITCH does. Even with the key off it is causing a drain on my battery and I'm trying to figure out what that terminal goes to. Thanks in advance.Had a spark-plug break off, had to pull the head to get it extracted. Where the heck is the timing mark on the crank. Do I need to pull the stator or flywheel to find it. When I pulled the head I had the mark on the cam lined up pretty good but I cant remember if it was perfect and don't want to reassemble a tooth off and have to go back through the bear of pulling this thing back apart.Hi I just got an Polaris sportsman 500 4x4 ATV the other day. I got it real cheap but I started to go into it because it didn't have compression so I bought a new piston and ring kit for it and installed it, but now when I try to start it all it does is shoot fire out the exhaust or the intake of the carburetor. And a timing is top dead center.;I think I can't really tell another way if it is or not.It has gas and spark. It did start a couple minutes ago but it didn't stay running and now it won't start. Do you think the valve need to be adjusted more to close better?I'm fixing to try that out and if that don't work what is the problem.

Also I made sure everything was together good and right and change the oil and changed out the radiator fluid.Put everything back together added oil per the manual. Check oil level and it was still way high so I wasn't confident that it primed so I did it again. Checked again and it's the same. Remove the oil filter and it is dry. I did the procedure again and the same results. The crankcase was drained as well. I Removed the oil tank and checked all the lines for obstructions and the screen filter and the vent hose and everything is clear. I even pulled a small vacuum on the oil tank while it was pulled off to make sure there were no leaks. The dipstick cap was on tight so I'm not sure why this thing is not priming. I thought about pre-priming the oil lines from the oil tank to the crankcase to hopefully help the system prime. I'd like to be able to add some oil to the crankcase to so I wouldn't feel so bad about running the engine for another 60 seconds without oil. I dropped just a little bit of oil in the spark plug hole to help condition the sleeve right now. Btw oil pump is working fine before I did the top-end rebuild and the oil pump was not touched. Your safety is involved when these words and symbols are used. Become familiar with their meanings before reading the manual. Your POLARIS RANGER is not a toy and can be hazardous to operate. This vehicle handles differently than other vehicles, such as cars, trucks or other off-road vehicles. A collision or rollover can occur quickly, even during routine maneuvers like turning, or driving on hills or over obstacles, if you fail to take proper precautions. An ignition key can be duplicated only by ordering a POLARIS key blank (using your key number) and mating it with one of your existing keys. The ignition switch must be replaced if all keys are lost. The operating conditions of the machinery during testing: The vehicles were in like-new condition. The environment was controlled as indicated by the test procedure(s). Whenever riding this POLARIS vehicle, always wear a helmet that meets or exceeds established safety standards. Approved helmets in the USA and Canada bear a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) label. Boots Wear sturdy over-the-ankle boots for support and protection. Never ride a POLARIS vehicle with bare feet or sandals.

Clothing Wear long sleeves and long pants to protect arms and legs. Replacement safety labels are provided by POLARIS at no charge. The part number is printed on the label. Follow the operating procedures described. Practice turning at slow speeds before attempting to turn at faster speeds.Equipment Modifications Do not install any non-POLARIS approved accessory or modify the vehicle for the purpose of increasing speed or power. Any modifications or installation of non-POLARIS approved accessories could create a substantial safety hazard and increase the risk of bodily injury. Heed all safety warnings outlined in this section of the owner’s manual. See the OPERATION section of the owner’s manual for proper operating procedures. Age Restrictions This vehicle is an ADULT VEHICLE ONLY. Always use the cab nets (or doors) while riding in this vehicle. Never operate this vehicle on any public street, road or highway, including dirt and gravel roads (unless designated for off-highway use). Always use the size and type of tires specified for your vehicle. Always maintain proper tire pressure as described in the owner's manual and on safety labels. Cab nets (or doors, if equipped) must be used by both operator and passengers at all times. Any illustrations with- out cab nets are only to allow component identification. Always use the cab nets (or doors). Not all models come with all features. Press the top of the rocker switch to engage All Wheel Drive. Press the bottom of the switch to operate in two wheel drive. High gear is intended for use on hard-packed surfaces with light loads. Whenever the vehicle is left unattended, always place the transmission in PARK. Apply the brakes while starting the engine. Throttle Pedal Push the pedal down to increase engine speed. Spring pressure returns the pedal to the rest position when released. Install the seat by sliding the tabs into the rear of the seat base.

Push down firmly on the front of the seat until the pins are fully seated into the grommets. Always make sure the seat belts are Latch Plate secured for all riders before operating. The driver’s seat belt is equipped with a seat belt interlock. Promptly replace worn or dam- aged cab nets and latches with new cab nets and latches. Please see your authorized POLARIS dealer. Securing a Net 1. After entering the vehicle, insert the lower net rod into the net mount on the floor. Make sure the ball at the end of the rod is properly secured in the slot at the base of the mount. To install this battery to your vehicle, you will also need to purchase the 30 AH battery strap bracket. If the light remains on, the EPS system is inoperative. See your authorized POLARIS dealer for service. Neutral This lamp illuminates when the transmission is in neutral and the ignition key is in the ON position. The information center is set to display standard units of measurement and a 12-hour clock at the factory. Tip: To exit the set-up mode at any time, wait 10 seconds. The display automatically exits and returns to the odometer display. Please see your POLARIS dealer for all major repairs. The diagnostic mode is accessible only when the check engine warning indicator activates after the key has been turned on. Leave the key on if you want to view the active code (fail- ure code). No single action on your part is as important as a proper break-in period. Secure the cab nets (or doors). 3. Apply the brakes. Place the transmission in PARK. 4. When operating on slippery surfaces such as ice or loose gravel, reduce speed and use extra caution to reduce the chance of skidding or sliding out of control. Do not operate on excessively slippery surfaces. Whenever riding on slippery surfaces such as wet trails or loose gravel, or during freezing weather, follow these precautions: 1. Never climb hills with excessively slippery or loose surfaces.

Improper procedure could cause loss of control or rollover. Avoid crossing the side of any hill unless absolutely necessary. If crossing a sidehill is unavoidable, follow these precautions: 1. NOTICE: Immersion can result in major damage if the vehicle isn't serviced correctly and promptly. After immersion, always take the vehicle to your dealer service. Do not start the engine. If it's impossible to bring the vehicle to your dealer before starting the engine, perform the service outlined on page 73, and take the vehicle to your dealer at the first opportunity. Never allow passengers to ride in the cargo box. Do not Release attempt to dump or unload the vehicle while Lever parked on an incline. 2. Apply the brakes. 3. Place the transmission in PARK. Dismount the vehicle. On models not equipped with a lockable rear differential, the All Wheel Drive system is controlled by the AWD switch. For models that are not equipped with a lockable rear differential, refer to the All Wheel Drive section beginning on page 46. Locking the differential in slippery or low traction conditions helps improve traction. WARNING Improper winch use can result in SEVERE INJURY or DEATH. Always follow all winch instructions and warnings in this manual. Never winch up or down at sharp angles. This can destabilize the winching vehicle and possibly cause it to move without warning. 14. Never attempt to winch loads that weigh more than the winch’s rated capacity. 15. Tip: Consider practicing the operation and use of your winch before you actually need to use it in the field. WARNING Improper winch use can result in SEVERE INJURY or DEATH. Always follow all winch instructions and warnings in this manual. For your safety, always replace POLARIS winch parts (including the cable) with genuine POLARIS replacement parts available at your authorized POLARIS dealer. In order to absorb energy that could be released by a winch cable failure, always place a “damper” on the winch cable.

A damper can be a heavy jacket, tarp, or other soft, dense object. Extensive winching will run down the battery on the winching vehicle. Let the winching vehicle’s engine run while operating the winch to prevent the battery from running low if winching for long periods. 14. The winch motor may become hot during winch use. If you winch for more than 45 seconds, or if the winch stalls during operation, stop winching and permit the winch to cool down for 10 minutes before using it again. WARNING! Use of worn or damaged cable could lead to sudden failure and SEVERE INJURY. Your winch cable is very strong but it is NOT designed for dynamic, or “shock” loading. Shock loading may tension a winch cable beyond its strength and cause the cable to break. The end of a broken winch cable under such high loading can cause SEVERE INJURY or DEATH to you and other bystanders. Federal law requires that this spark arrester be installed and functional when the vehicle is operated on public lands. WARNING! Improperly performing the procedures marked with a “D” could result in component failure and lead to serious injury or death. Have an authorized POLARIS dealer perform these services. E Emission-Related Service. D Have an authorized POLARIS dealer perform these services. Always use the recommended engine oil. See page 61. NOTICE: Allowing dirt or debris to enter the engine can result in serious engine damage. CAUTION! Hot oil can cause burns to skin. Do not allow hot oil to contact skin. 4. Place a drain pan beneath engine crankcase and remove the drain plug. Always use the recommended engine oil. See page 61. NOTICE: Allowing dirt or debris to enter the engine can result in serious engine damage. CAUTION! Hot oil can cause burns to skin. Do not allow hot oil to contact skin. 4. Place a drain pan beneath engine crankcase and remove the drain plug. See page 92 for the part numbers of POLARIS products. Fluid Check The fill plug is located on the rear of the gearcase.

See page 92 for the part numbers of POLARIS products. Oil Check The front gearcase fill plug is located on the right side of the front gearcase. This antifreeze is already premixed and ready to use. Do not dilute with water. See page 92 for the part numbers of POLARIS products. Bottle Cap Have the cooling system inspected by your POLARIS dealer. Radiator Coolant Level Always check and clean the screen and radiator fins at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 59. Use the following instructions to dry it out before operating. 1. Position the vehicle on a level surface. 2. Remove the red drain plug on the outer clutch cover. Do not attempt to clean the air filter. NOTICE: Use of a non-POLARIS-approved air filter may cause engine damage. Always use a POLARIS-approved replacement filter. See page 92 for the part numbers of POLARIS products. Press down on the brake pedal to engage the brakes. See page 25. Brake Fluid Inspect the brake system routinely. Inspect the level of the brake fluid before each operation. WARNING! After opening a bottle of brake fluid, always discard any unused portion. Spring Adjustment Adjust the front and rear shock absorber springs by rotating the adjustment cam either clockwise or counter-clockwise to increase or decrease spring tension. Always use POLARIS-approved size and type of tires for this vehicle when replacing tires.Do not service axle nuts that have a cotter pin installed. See your POLARIS dealer. 3. Attach the wheel nuts and washers and fin- ger tighten. Spare fuses are provided in the fuse box. If you suspect that a fuse or relay may not be working properly, please see your POLARIS dealer. Fuse Size Feature Supported Brake Light. It contains sulfuric acid. Serious burns can result from contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Antidote: External: Flush with water. Internal: Drink large quantities of water or milk. Follow with milk of magnesia, beaten egg, or vegetable oil.

When removing the battery, always disconnect the negative (black) cable first. When reinstalling the battery, always connect the negative (black) cable last. 1. Before installing the 30 AH battery, remove the plastic spacer at the bottom of the battery compartment. Do not allow these types of products to contact the vehicle. The best and safest way to clean your POLARIS vehicle is with a garden hose and a pail of mild soap and water. Follow the instructions on the container for the recommended amount. Carbon Clean removes water from fuel systems, stabilizes fuel and removes carbon deposits from pistons, rings, valves and exhaust systems. Oil will be forced in and around the piston rings and ring lands, coating the cylinder with a protective film of fresh oil. 6. If POLARIS fuel system additive is not used, fuel tank, fuel lines, and injectors should be completely drained of gasoline. Tightness of the bolts, nuts and other fasteners should be checked by an authorized POLARIS dealer. 5. Lubricate at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page Transporting the RANGER Follow these procedures when transporting the vehicle. Clutch malfunction See your POLARIS dealer. Poor engine performance Check for fouled plugs or foreign material in fuel tank or fuel lines. See your dealer. The duration of this warranty may vary by international region based upon local laws and regulations. You must nonetheless register your product under your name and address with a local POLARIS dealer in your country to ensure that you receive safety information and notices regarding your product. This EPA emissions warranty period is extended for at least as long as the standard factory warranty that Polaris provides on the vehicle as a whole.

The EPA emissions warranty period does not further extend if you purchase additional warranty coverage in the form of a service contract or other paid warranty extension, but emission-related parts may be covered subject to the terms of any such paid service contract or paid warranty extension. The exclusive remedy for breach of this limited warranty shall be, at the exclusive option of POLARIS, repair or replacement of any defective materials, components or products.Vehicle rollover can cause severe injury or death.

Unless it has been moved or jostled there is no reason to expect that any modern mechanical clock should develop any new problem after a week's worth of good running. Use your ears. You should be listening for an even TICK TOCK ( listen ) sound. If you hear an uneven tick TOCK or TOCK tick ( listen ) sound, carefully tilt the clock one direction or the other. You can carefully move the bottom of the hanging clock to the right or to the left until you hear that even ticking sound. 2. Flat against the wall. Make sure that your clock is hanging flat against the wall. There should be no space between the back of the clock and the wall. The clock needs to be hanging exactly parallellel to the wall. 3. Wind the clock fully. Many times, clock owners will be afraid of winding a spring-wound clock too tightly. Don't be. You can't break the spring. Most mainsprings are about an inch-wide ribbon of tempered steel. Could you imagine breaking this with your own arm.Besides, there is a stop catch built into new mechanisms to provide safety. Wind the clock until it comes to a complete stop. If you have a key, wind it until it goes no further. If there are weights, wind the clock until the weight comes all the way to the top. DO NOT LIFT the weight with your other hand. There should always be tension on the chain or cable which supports the weight. Sometimes they can be confusing. If your clock is not cuckooing, try the shut-off switch in both positions regardless of what the marker says. 5. Where are your weights. Make sure the weights are each hanging on the hooks correctly. 6. The cuckoo door There is a little wire latch which sometimes gets in the way of the cuckoo door. Make sure that this is out of the way so that the door can open. Remember: when you set a clock, just move the (longer) minute hand and let the hour hand follow along.

Many modern clocks allow you to move the minute hand backwards (counter-clockwise) some allow you to shut off the sounds so that you don't have to listen at each interval. Either way, you shouldn't move the hour hand independently of the minute hand - because you will cause your mechanism to become out of sync with your hands. Most modern clocks allow for an easy fix. Simply follow this procedure: NOTE: if you have a quarter-hour or half-hour chime clock, you may have to wait at the quarter or half-hours for your clock to finish making its sounds. 2. Count the number of strikes or calls your clock gives at the hour. 3. Move your (shorter) hour hand, just this once, to the number called. This will get your clock back in sync with what the hands say. 4. Once your clock is back in sync, proceed to set your clock to the proper time - but don't move the hour hand this time. Just move the (longer) minute hand to the correct time and the hour hand will follow along. You may have to go around several hours to be in the correct day or night time to align with your calendar or shut-off mechanisms. Once you are locked in, you can move the minute hand to the proper time. The hour hand and clock mechanism will dutifully follow along with your direction. NOTE: the above procedure is virtually universal for all clocks, but there are always exceptions. Ideally, when moving the hour hand, you should be able to slightly loosen the (shorter) hour hand from its shaft. Most are only fit on by friction, so you can press it back on in the correct setting very easily. If you have a clock where it is very difficult to move the hour hand independently, or if you cannot easily loosen it from a friction fitting, STOP. You should have a clock professional look at your clock. If you force clocks with stiff hour hands you could cause serious damage to the mechanism. The procedure in this article is meant for most modern clocks. A: Your clock is probably in the nighttime range.

These clocks are meant to be silent between approximately 10pm and 8 or 9am. Simply move your minute hand (so that the hour hand follows) clockwise several hours until your clock starts cuckooing again. Now you are in the daytime range. My cuckoo clock is cuckooing way too many times. Sometimes it cuckoos 15 times. A: Remember that your quartz cuckoo has an echo. There are other sounds playing too, for example there is another kind of bird that starts the hour chime, then the cuckoo, his echo, and music. Be sure to only count the louder cuckoo calls - without their echos. My quartz cuckoo clock isn't cuckooing the correct number of times. How do I sync the bird with the hands. A: There are two methods for this. You could press the setting button a number of times equaling the difference between what the hands show and what the bird is calling. Count the number of calls first, then push the button to bring it up to what the hands say. You could also move the hour hand (independently of the minute hand) to match the number of calls the bird makes. Music clocks have three weights and clocks without music have two. Do not pull the figurines or any other decorative attachment. Do not bend any of the wire connections. This might cause damage to the clockwork. Hanging a clock by anchoring it directly into a stud is the best and most secure way to mount your cuckoo clock It is generally recommended that you use a screw with a minimum of 2 inches in length for going through the drywall and into a stud. It is also recommended that the screw have a large head and be installed at a slight downward angle as shown below. This is the most secure way to hang your cuckoo clock. Please note that a cuckoo clock, because of the chains, needs to hang 1,8 -2,0 meters (6-7 feet) above the floor.
