I'm no stranger to detailed engine work. I ordered this manual because it's time to replace the timing belt on my 2005 A4 Cabrio (3.0 V6) and I couldn't download anything similar for free. I worried about shelling out a hundred bucks because of some of the less-than-glowing reviews here. I'm glad to say that in my humble opinion, this book is well worth the price. I haven't actually done the job yet, but have gone through the book flagging the pages I'll need during the job. It is an outstanding reference. And that, my friend, is real money. I think this may be the first review I've ever written. That's how strongly I feel about the value of this book.This manual will not tell you how to remove and replace an engine. It will not tell you anything about how to make sure the Cams are set properly. It does not tell you what order to tighten the cam carrier bolts, the head bolts, or the intake bolts. It gives diagrams but that's it. There are no trouble shooting guides anywhere in the manual. That being said, it was very helpful in removing the transmission to install a new clutch, and I used it to guide me in removing a door panel. It also helped with the turbo install and the timing belt and component install. There's a lot of general information in it. The last 100 pages or so are very small complicated wiring diagrams. Not really very useful.There is no Diagrams for basic things such as engine cooling systems, Flush instructions, pump replacement and that's about it, there are many things that are missed.
Transmission section is scarce for the Automatics although there is an extensive section on repair of the cabriolet top??? I had to buy another book for the transmission and found more information about the cooling system and its routing on the web. If you are looking to to do basic maintenance this is for you, if you really want to be able to service every aspect of the car pay for the factory service manual.They are way way expensive and I hate that. BUT when you think about how much a auto garage charges per hour.I now own 3 of these books for different vehicles. They are really technical, but they explain what they mean and most anyone with basic understanding and who has the patience to read through the whole thing can figure it out. Great books. very highly recommended.Bentley manuals, especially in paper form, are the best thing to have in your car or garage. First off they offer the most comprehensive repair procedures around. The DVD's that sell for a few bucks cheaper are only good for reference. Beck 4.0 out of 5 stars This book has proven to be very helpful when working on my 2008 A4, finding fluid capacities, torque numbers, and detailed procedures to remove different items. However, I think a revision would be beneficial after so many years. This book covers two generations of A4, the B6 chassis and B7 chassis. They're very similar but have slight differences, and sometimes it seems the book jumps between the two or focus on the B6 series. I believe one example that's missed is that the cooling system in the B6 has two temperature sensors while the B7 only has 1, but this isn't addressed in the book. I will have to confirm this but I believe it also recommends 5w-30 oil which may have been used for the B6, but my B7 uses 5w-40.
The layout is also confusing because the index refers to page number, I.E. 12-10 is the tenth page of section 12, while each section labels them in order, I.E. 12-10 is the tenth topic in section 12. This book also has the maintenance information that’s helpful. What is super nice is you can see how many parts you need to remove for a particular service item. So if you bring it to a mechanic you can tell if they are pulling your leg for some items. For example if you need to replace something on the motor most items do not require you to pull the motor. However if a gasket need replacing. You may need to pull the entire motor. Knowing what is involved can help you question the validity of labor. Parts in general for this car are expensive (even when they are in large supply). Mostly because Audi parts are always expensive.It does not cover the core issues that plague the VW and Audi world like oil leaks, oil housing gasket replacement and more. It basically gives a title or introduction level to the issue with no step by steps fix or how to. The only good thing is the picture. The pictures are actual pictures and not cartoon drawing. I personally did not like the book and will not recommend it.A true professional might benefit from these guides for specific problems on specific makes. That said, it is way over the head (and hands) of the casual service needs of this AUDI owner. I (like many other AUDI owners) love my car and am vexxed by its service needs.

I recently purchased a 2001 Grand Marquis from a elderly friend that can no longer drives and it took me a bit to get use to the instant throttle response it has. I have to be careful or I'm lying rubber every time I take off. The Audi is peppy and has great brakes. Very good stereo as well. It is a tight ride which is good for corners. I don't regret buying it but I did buy it used. I'd not be as happy if I had purchased it new I can tell you. Repairs are insane. So I just try and do most of them myself. It has had close to no problems. Only problem was a headlight went out.
