The buttons on the top started acting funny. The number 1 button would not respond unless i pushed it really hard or pushed it about 10 times. When I would push the power button the light would come on but the radio would not actually turn on. These problems are not constant but intermittent. But enough to make things quite irritating. All of this is very frustrating as I have never dropped the radio, never gotten it wet, never even taken it outdoors. I have treated it very well. I called C. Crane about a week ago to see if there was anything I could do. They were very friendly, but basically told me I was out of luck. They would not exchange it for me as it is past their 1 year warranty. This is a huge disappointment.

I believe most of the positive reviews for this radio were written by people who just recently bought it. It would be nice to see more reviews from people who have actually used it for several years before reviewing.I find radio to be far more romantic and compelling than modern methods of broadcasting. Staying up late in the night and turning the dial with the soft glow of the tuner, the sound of static and mystery that can sometimes accompany radio broadcasts offers something truly genuine that you can't get anywhere else today. That feeling is priceless and not duplicable (If that was even a word). Anyway, this radio is good quality and contains the capability needed to reach further than most others. If you enjoy radio as I do, a clock radio, ghetto blaster or home stereo won't cut it. If you know what I am talking about, then this radio is for you. I've stayed up many nights listening to Coast to Coast AM on the internet, but it lacked the feeling something like this radio will bring you. I was unable to pick up a station on my home stereo to listen to CTC and was forced to use the internet. The internet provided a clear, stereo sounding broadcast and was very clear. The CC Radio has been spoken about on the program for many years. I finally picked one up and am very pleased with it's performance. I can now pick up the radio broadcast of Coast to Coast AM and with all the nuances I expect of a a late night radio broadcast. When interesting speakers talk about compelling topics, a crystal clear internet broadcast does not move you inside. However, using the CC Radio, the slight static, the slight fading in and out and all other fantastic experiences you can only receive using a real radio, it has the ability to make you feel and even send chills up your spine. There is just something a good solid radio can do for you that nothing else can and the CC Radio delivers on that 100. You will not be disappointed and I really need to get my license.

After about one year of normal use the pre-set buttons on top started to fail: that is, you would push one and nothing happened. This problem gradually became worse with the buttons on top and now has spread to EVERY BUTTON on the radio. It's all haywire: you push the clock-set button, for instance, and the station changes, or the band changes, or the brightness of the display dims. By now the pre-set buttons on top are 100 useless. The radio sounds as good as it ever did, which is excellent, the reception is also excellent and undiminished, but none of that really matters when it's so difficult to use. This is the second Crane radio I have bought, but I won't be replacing this one with another Crane. The company evidently doesn't care about long-term usability. Update, October 28, 2018: Immediately after submitting this review I was contacted by a representative of C. Crane who offered to send a replacement at no charge. Ms. Urbina couldn't have been nicer about it and followed up at every step. I have been using the new one every day since then with no problems whatsoever. In light of this experience I must say that the C. Crane company certainly DOES care about the long-term usability of its radios, and just as important, it really cares about its customers.In its very own manual it states that in the daytime it can be expected to pick up a good signal within 300 miles and at night quite a lot farther. My husband had a long conversation with the seller before buying this radio to make sure it could work for us before spending a sizeable amount for a radio. It is roughly 150 miles between our home in Coquitlam, BC and Mercer Island in Seattle where KIXI AM880 radio is broadcast from. I cannot say that we had no reception, but it was poor - at 150 miles, while sitting out in the middle of our yard. Next to no reception in our house. It should have been able to give a good signal, easily, according to them.
After buying it they now said that adding an antenna would probably not help; it would just amplify the hash along with the signal and you would not be any farther ahead. All in all I'm not sure who this radio would work for. Maybe if you lived on the bald prairie or on a mountaintop with absolutely nothing in between you and the radio station's signal it would be okay.I already own a CCRadio-2 (CC-2), which I had for almost three years now and was quite happy with it, but based on Jay Allen's very favourable review of the CC-2E, I thought I too would like to enjoy better sound and improved FM reception. Who wouldn't? I have compared all three CC-2E radios to my original CC-2. The first CC-2E I have purchased was a Black colour model. Yes, it did have a slightly better FM reception and a little better, more open sound (a wider range of Bass and Treble adjustments) than my CC-2. It is a fine sound, nothing wrong with it, but not anywhere near as great as what Mr. Allen claims it to be ' he grossly exaggerated the quality of the sound. Admittedly, the sound is somewhat stronger if the CC-2E (or CC-2) is operated off of its AC electric cord instead of the four 'D' batteries. Unfortunately, my first CC-2E had a poorly functioning AM band. Even after 'fine-tuning' it by its built-in software, it had these 'birdies' or rhythmic chirping in the background on AM, especially at night. This radio was returned to Amazon. A couple of weeks later, I purchased a second CC-2E in the Titanium colour. So the second CC-2E was also returned to Amazon. Then I telephoned C. Crane in California to tell them about my disappointing experience with their new CC-2Es. They assured me that the CC-2E is a fine radio and I just had bad luck purchasing two 'defective' models in a row. I was told by C. Crane Technical Support that the CC-2E should perform at least as well as the older CC-2. That is what the 'E', Enhanced, stands for.
They also claimed that any defective radios returned to Amazon would not be re-sold to new customers, but shipped back to C. Crane for inspection. About a month after purchasing the second CC-2E, I decided to order, for the last time(!), a third one from Amazon-dot-ca. This one in Titanium as well. The third CC-2E worked nearly fine. The sound was a little better, the FM reception was slightly clearer, and the AM reception was the same as with my original CC-2. At this point, I thought this third CC-2E was a keeper. But I have discovered a huge design flaw with the CC-2E. When reception of a radio station is less than optimal, the sound Volume is proportionately diminished. Based on my own personal experience with these CC-2E radios, I have to recommend that if you already own a working-well CC-2, do not purchase a CC-2E radio. The CC-2 is a beautifully designed radio ' both functionally and cosmetically.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. The radio is able to pull in distant signals that other units only generate static. The unit also fine tunes the signal and eliminates background noise producing a clear signal.
