It was converted to a static display at the LRAFB Visitor Center, Arkansas by Sept. 1989 In July 1994, it moved to the Empire State Air Museum, Schenectady County Airport, New York, until placed on the gate at Stratton Air National Guard Base in October 1994. One of the greatest feats of heroism during the Vietnam War involved the C-130E, call sign “Spare 617”. The C-130E attempted to airdrop ammunition to surrounded South Vietnamese forces at An Loc, Vietnam. Approaching the drop zone, Spare 617 received heavy enemy ground fire that damaged two engines, ruptured a bleed air duct in the cargo compartment, and set the ammunition on fire. Flight engineer TSgt Sanders was killed, and navigator 1st Lt Lenz and co-pilot 1st Lt Hering were both wounded. Despite receiving severe burns from hot air escaping from the damaged air bleed duct, loadmaster TSgt Shaub extinguished a fire in the cargo compartment, and successfully jettisoned the cargo pallets, which exploded in mid-air. Despite losing a third engine on final approach, pilot Capt Caldwell landed Spare 617 safely. For their actions, Caldwell and Shaub received the Air Force Cross, the U.S. Air Force’s second highest award for valor. TSgt Shaub also received the William H. Pitsenbarger Award for Heroism from the Air Force Sergeants Association. Retired to the National Museum of Naval Aviation, NAS Pensacola, Florida in May 2003. Alcohol ignition lock - I The licence holder may only drive a motor vehicle that is fitted with an approved alcohol ignition lock.
LAMS Learner Approved Motorcycle restriction - R The licence holder is restricted to riding a Learner Approved Motorcycle that has a power to weight ratio not exceeding 150 kilowatts per tonne and an engine capacity not exceeding 660 cubic centimetres (cc). Glasses or lenses required to drive - S You must wear corrective lenses at all times while driving. This condition will only be applied when you require corrective lenses to pass the eye test for fitness to drive. Zero blood alcohol when you drive - Z You must observe zero blood alcohol concentration restriction. Modified vehicle required - V The licence holder may only drive a motor vehicle fitted with any of the following specified driver aids or modification as directed in writing by the Registrar of Motor Vehicle: Steering spinner knob - left - VA You may only drive vehicles fitted with a left-hand spinner knob. Steering spinner knob - right - VB You may only drive vehicles fitted with a right-hand spinner knob. Power steering only - VC You may only drive vehicles fitted with power steering. Automatic vehicle only - VD You may only drive vehicles fitted with an automatic transmission. Modified indicator arm - left - VE You may only drive vehicles fitted with an extended indicator arm - left. Modified indicator arm - right - VF You may only drive vehicles fitted with an extended indicator arm - right. Head operated indicators - VG You may only drive a vehicle fitted with indicators operated by head movements. Accelerator left of brake - VH You may only drive a vehicle with an accelerator pedal fitted to the left of the brake pedal. Hand operated foot controls - VI The licence holder may only drive a vehicle fitted with hand-operated controls for brakes and accelerator. External mirrors left and right - VJ You may only drive vehicles fitted with external mirrors to the left and right-hand side of the vehicle.
