This range finder has many of the same features as higher end range finders, as it has the ability to provide angle compensation and ranging capability out to a maximum claimed 1000 yards (on very reflective targets). Available in 2 colour choices, black and camouflage, when you put your hands on the Bushnell range finder, you notice that the exterior is constructed of a soft rubber which quickly feels comfortable in your hand. This provides a easy grip surface in all weather conditions, they have provided a lanyard attachment point, along with a tripod mount for added stability. Bushnell states the unit is fully waterproof, although there is no reference provided to what depth. Weather resistant may be more of an accurate description. Like most of the competition Bushnell states the maximum range is 1000 yards, based on highly reflective targets. The manufacturer states the Bushnell Scout 1000 will range hard objects such as trees to 650 yards, and soft target such as deer or game to 325 yards. As it says in the owner’s manual the maximum distance for most objects is 650 yards. You make the call, what we found in our test is a bit different. This being the case I wonder how it would perform in the rain. It actually has a rain setting. Although we did not field test this function. In a nutshell if you are shooting up or down the range finder will calculate the actual distance to the target.

The user can select to display the bullet drop in inches or centimetres, MOA or MIL. There are 8 identifiable bullet ballistic groups. No angle compensation. This allows the user to make adjustments to the shot based on individual ballistic calculations. Unlike many of its competitors who have created a colored display, for reasons unknown to me, Bushnell has opted for keep a black LCD display. It was difficult to say the least and more than a little frustrating to range dark objects in low light conditions, nearly impossible is a more accurate description. If you plan on using your rangefinder in low light or dark conditions it would be highly suggested that you consider another model. As I have learned through multiple reviews, black is not the ideal choice for any range finder reticule display. This mode setting allows the user to set the range finder to range objects furthest in the distance, so if you’re ranging through brush, trees or grass, this will greatly assist in preventing false readings. Searching around for other reviews on this product, I found many people that have made comments about the battery not lasting, or the unit just stopped working, many reviews say it never worked right out of the box. I didn’t experience any of this myself however there are plenty of reviews with similar complaints. In this regard some internet search’s will show many people who have complained about the customer service they received. Just another factor to consider prior to purchasing this model. Based on its poor low light capability, accompanied by its inability to range anywhere close to claimed distances in our opinion you are better off to spend a little more money to get a product that will do all things well. Unless your plan is to use this range finder on sunny days, specifically on a golf course then choose this model. If you think you will be doing anything other than that, consider another model. I love my original Bushnell Yardage Pro Compact 600 and have never had a problem with it but I've had it for 11 years and the ARC feature wasn't available at that time. I hunt primarily with a bow and the ARC feature is why I bought the Scout 1000. I feel that it will be a great addition for my hunting from a tree stand. Taking the guess work out of angled shots will be great for my confidence when the shot presents itself.

Bushnell makes a great rangefinder and the Scout 1000 appears to be well made and works as described. The only things that I would complain about is that I wear glasses and the lens is set too far away from my eye to get a full field of view with them on, so I either have to remove my glasses or be content with only seeing a small center view. However, I can see what I need to and can work around that. It is a little frustrating that the operating manual says to fold the eyepiece down for glasses wearers but it doesn't have a fold down eye piece on the unit, I'm not sure what they are talking about there. The ARC feature in this unit is only good for 60 degrees angle up or down where as the Legend 1200 and some other units on the market are good to 89 or even a full 90 degrees. I wasn't aware of that when I bought it otherwise I may have spent the extra dollars for the 1200. However, I don't foresee a need for any shots at angles steeper than 60 degrees but you never know for sure where the animal will present itself, the extra angle of the 1200 would be worth the difference in price if you expect shots nearly straight up or down. The lens of the Scout 1000 are coated with Raingard which will also be a nice addition in foul weather. I Iike the range finder, but I wish the cross hairs and the letters would light up in a different color then black. A little hard to see in low light or with dark back drops. Everything else is great. While I haven't actually used this on a hunt yet I have used it extensively setting up targets and practicing with it. It appears to be very easy to use, accurate and fast. The ballistics table showing bullet drop really saves me a lot of time, and the shoot for reading in bow hunting mode is fantastic. Now if they could just figure out how to make it do windage also. Won't range through blind shoot through mesh, old Nikon would. During a recent hunt had some very lite fog would not give a yardage.
On occasion in brush mode in the fog would get a reading but it was not accurate. Ok for medium range precision rifle. I bought this for 2 functions, 1st to use with recreational field archery and 2nd to range targets for medium range precision shooting. Providing the angle and true horizontal distances is essential to help connect with your target and aids in the prevention of lost arrows; ). The 6x is decent magnification for checking your grouping (when using it archery) as far as 90 yards on a clear day. Be sure to adjust the eye piece to get the clearest picture. The glass resolution is overall a bit low but for the price range it's on par with other rangefinders. You can get a rangefinder with higher resolution glass but expect to pay 5 or 6 times what you will pay for this little tool. One unadvertised feature is that this rangefinder has a standard tripod threaded mounting point at the bottom of this unit. Time will tell how the battery life will be. Verisign. Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2017 After sifting through plenty of reviews for this and other rangefinders, I was dying to try this one out after deciding to pull the trigger on it. It seems you can find a bunch of whiners and crybabies out there for just about every rangefinder on the market and they sure do a hell of a job mucking up product ratings and adding a healthy dose of confusion to the mix. So I hope I can shed some light on this particular model, and rangefinder purchases in general. First off: This is an excellent rangefinder. The optical clarity is great and in foggy, rainy conditions it never fell through for me. After 3 days in rain sighting in bows and rifles, I can vouch for the waterproof body and had no problem at all with foggy lenses or inaccurate readings. The ARC system is a huge plus as a bowhunter and I found it was a great comfort to know both the line of sight and true horizontal distances with the push of a button. For those complaining of inaccurate distances or inconsistency, I'd recommend you take account of your own form while taking readings before bashing this device. A steady hand goes a long way and can clear up the odd off reading here or there. As far as max distance goes, it's clearly stated in the product description (of just about any rangefinder) that max distance is for highly reflective and large targets (best case scenarios). I had no problem generally sighting trees, stands, signs, and more from about 400 yards and closer.
Obviously the further out you go the more steady you need to keep your grip and I found bracing against something as if you were looking through a rifle scope was the best bet. I didn't have the opportunity to use it much further than that, but I think common sense dictates the unit's effectiveness across various circumstances. If you're glassing elk from 1000 yards away on a consistent basis, you might want to invest in a higher end model. If you need a reliable bowhunter's companion for anything within a few times your bow range, I'd highly recommend this device. If I had to talk about some cons for this purchase, I would probably have to say that against certain backdrops, the black readings are a bit hard to see. However, the unit will take an accurate reading under these conditions. It's just a matter of you being able to read what it displays. I found you can take the reading and then utilize the 30 seconds it displays the last measurement by pointing the device to the sky where the black text has more contrast to be readable. I'd also criticize a lack of a proper lens cover. The case is alright but as basic as it get and I'd probably upgrade to something more deliberate to protect the actual device. I'd also probably go with an upgrade lanyard as the one that comes with is as basic as they come. Hope this helps those who are looking for a solid, entry level rangefinder for hunting. Golfers, I suggest you find a golf specific model instead of whining about a hunting centric rangefinder not finding the pin at 1000 yards. Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2017 The camo pattern is dull looking and not vibrant like in the photo. You can fold the eye cup back to use it with glasses, but the eye relief still isn't good enough to easily see the entire display with glasses on, and the adjustment on the eye piece isn't right to take care of what my prescription glasses do.
By adjusting the eye piece I can make the display in focus or the object I am reading in focus, but not both. IIRC, I can't look at a far object and read the numbers clearly. It seems like the adjustment should change everything you see in the eye piece but maybe I'm wrong. I need to read the book to see if it covers that. I bought this to do layout work for our shooting range. It does the job, but as others mentioned, it is hard to get readings on objects more than 300 yards away. I was trying to read off buildings, trees, k rails, vehicles, hillsides, etc.I need to be able to setup a 600 yard rifle range. We thought about using a sheet of aluminum at one end of the property to see if it would let us get a reading at that long of a distance, but haven't tried it yet. Please try again later. I had a bushnell elite 1500 that ranged up to 1200 pretty good.

Please try again later. Brendan 2.0 out of 5 stars The rangefinder appears to do its job at ranging distance, but doesn't display angles and rifle mode has some strange restrictions and stipulations. I wish that Bushnell would've spent a little more quality time with this product as it seems that they just pieced it and its functions together from other rangefinders. This is the cousin or stepchild of rangefinders in my opinion. I'm sure people will love it for its uniqueness and the functions it has for their situations and environment. Please try again later.
