Palmettostatearmory A lot of different manuals have a few different ones but its pretty limited and buffered loads are almost unheard of. I ran across Buckshot Loading Manual 3rd edition on Ballistic Products Inc's website. Would it have the info i'm looking for in it. It says it has loading data for all gauges and stacking guides but the description is pretty lacking other than that. I'm open to any other suggestions of manuals and such that anyone else may have. It's got more buckshot loads in it than Lyman's 5th edition. However it's limited in certain hulls. Then it uses all BPI filler wads or wraps and most all BPI wads. Also Fiocchi uses Fio 616 primers. There is about 24 loads with Win AA hulls, 5 Rem hulls, 11 Fio, 2 Cheddite, and 5 Fed GM hulls. All the rest are BPI MultiHulls. Just about all of them use BPI supplied wads, wraps, and gas seals plus I see only one using a buffer. It has a how to pattern your loads section and what effects patterns. The manual is very good BUT be prepared to order components to load your buckshot loads from BPI itself. Like I said, most all wads, wraps, gas seals, etc.Several but not a lot.Hope this gives an accurate summary of the BPI III Shotshell manual. Just so you know that most loads use BPI components. Just to add that Ballistic Products INC. BPI has an excellent master catalog and sends out sales flyers occasionally. The catalog has all kinds of shotshell loading tools that you might need. Some really neat tools for anything shotshell. Plus they have all kinds of shot, components, and other products.

For instance, these are 51 grains each, but nominal sized pure lead buckshot would be 54.3 grains each, you could over-charge your load by 35 grains, more than I'd feel comfortable with. So if you go by purely the count you could end up over-charging the weight.I've loaded a bunch. Not girly loads. Don't cheat on loading, these are pretty high pressure. Somebody makes the 12 R substitute. I've loaded a bunch. Somebody makes the 12 R substitute. With the brush wad that is used it could also be used for 000 since there are no petals. You'd get 6 pellets in the load, and since it'd be more like 1 ounce instead of 460 grains you'd get a bit more velocity out of it. I had it bookmarked for the STS loads at the bottom using the flex seal, same thing that precision reloading sells as the gualandi gas seal. I had it bookmarked though because not many loads call for something without petals and therefore easily being able to use 000.

My fastest 12-00 is 1325 fps. I make a nice low recoil 6-00 that makes 1305.For The OP: (If you're just loading buck and slug you should get the manuals from BPI) From the BPI Buckshot Loading III manual. It is worthwhile to approach the added recoil of higher velocity loads with a working knowledge of the real retained velocity at working ranges. It is worthwhile to approach the added recoil of higher velocity loads with a working knowledge of the real retained velocity at working ranges. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWhen the animal was finally found, it appeared to have one hit in the lungs by a single pellet and three pellets in the paunch and hind quarter. From my point of view, it was simply a lucky hit at a range beyond any reasonable certainty of placing a lethal pattern on target. If the six rounds fired were of the commonly used 15 pellet 00B variety, then a total of 90 pellets were fired at that deer. So I may go back and pick up some Rio pimers but was surprised since I though cheddite made rio hulls. FBThere is data for Cheddite hulls with Cheddite primers but not many loads under 12 gauge. They seem to have significantly more load data for 16 gauge - 28 gauge using Cheddite components. They list nothing for Rio components.I think I,m going to get enough rio primers to load the hulls I have and use them for one time target loads. FBYou dont have to use bpi wads. It does cover alot of hulls with alot of good info on shotgun reloading.A few months back they had some buckshot loads with RIO hulls. I did not pay attention to what primers were called out.

From varmint and home defense loads to law enforcement, buckshot is one of the fastest growing trends in shotgunning. When fired at fleeing targets and through thick cover, buckshot loads are often the ideal projectile(s) in regards to energy and complete on-target coverage. Does that contain fibre loads if it does I'll buy a copy as Clay Game sells it, just want to get a list together so they have it all when i go. They mostly seem to have plastic wads and or gas seals with the odd bit of fibre to get the height. I will look in more detail though. You are not going to be shooting deer so you don't need 1600 fps.

The overall shot column may be a bit bigger than with birdshot so you may have to adjust the height of the wads to compensate. Other than that its business as usual You are not going to be shooting deer so you don't need 1600 fps. Other than that its business as usual I load various buckshot loads mainly to American data as per above manual. A nitro card and fibre load would be easy to make from a bird shot loading the same payload weight as suggested above. What components are you planning to use UK or US? I'll try and phone you in the next day or so anyway. After my successful attempt at reloading some general purpose rounds I am going to give the buckshot a go. I'm going to use the load below and see how it goes. I'm expecting to have to cut the wads slightly. Hopefully if I finish painting early I will be able to give it a go this evening. Bigpapa 5.0 out of 5 stars This press does not like new shell that much. It is harder to get a good crimp with new shells. That is my opinion. I only made 00 buck and slug rounds. Of course it won't feed buck shot or slug, you have to do it by hand. The rest of the procedure is done by the press. Now i have bought another one to go beside it so when and if the other one breaks down i will have a spare one. This press is not a fast press. I can make 75 to 100 rounds an hour which is good for me. For the money it is a very good press. I have been reloading pistol, shotshell and rifle shells for a lot of years so take this feedback as you will. Thank youAnd once you get going on this, it's fairly easy. Do yourself a favor though and buy a book on shot shell reloading if you don't already have experience. This machine, as I mentioned, does make the process fairly simple after you load your first shell, and they come out looking factory made. Some tips: -Yes, you can load buckshot. The hopper is intended for birdshot only. To load buckshot, you'll have to manually count out the shot for your chosen load weight and drop them into the shell. -I'm finding some shot shells aren't holding their primers very well. After putting your primer in, it wouldn't hurt to try and pull it out with your fingernails until you know that particular type of shell will hold the primer. In looking it up, I'm seeing that there is a tool to condition the primer pockets, and I will add this to my wish list. The machine works great and with a little bit of rhythm, you can start cranking out some nicely crimped 12GA rounds. Set up is pretty easy. Did not take long to mount to my bench. Not a lot of torque when using the device, so it does not have to be on a super strong platform.

Here are a few thing to note when getting going. 1. Depending on your powder, make sure to get a digital scale. The bushings, the data from the load books, do not always match. Mine have been consistently way under grain weight. For the time being, I am weighing every 5 rounds for consistency. I bought this scale: They will work perfect. 4. Spend some time watching You Tube videos. Great information out there!! 5 Be safe, and enjoy. I had to contact Lee\s customer service to figure out what I was doing wrong at first. Very quick reply from them and they helped me figure out the issue. Great service. I highly recommend this device. Is also very cheap to swap over to 20GA and others. Happy ReloadingLooks to be something I'll continue to do. With that in mind, thought to give reloading a try. Not sure if it's worth the trouble or if I'll save any money. However, the Lee Precision II is an inexpensive way to give it a go. With the low cost of this unit compared to some other loaders, I'm already saving money. If I find reloading is not something to continue, there's not a lot of money invested. The reloading itself is not that hard to do. The machine is setup in a logical manner to walk you through the reloading process step by step. It goes a little slow at first but as you gain experience and a system, you can get it done efficiently. If you enjoy working with your hands, this could be considered fun. Plenty of Utube videos out there on this machine. View a couple before making your purchase. Whether you're into trap, skeet or hunting reloading might just be that extension of your hobby to get you through those cold winter months as you reload and dream about nicer days. But I like it because I scrounge for shells at the club and I can reload just about anything in small batches of 25. I shoot about 150 shells a week and I find this adequate. I bought and read Lyman's Shotshell Handbook as well. That was a smart move on my part.

If you are new to this like I am, it will explain a lot of key concepts necessary to safely reload. I'm glad I read it first because I believe that I could have made some big safety mistakes. Also, I bought an electric powder scale as the bushings can throw too much or too little powder. Safety, safety, safety.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. It inflicts the most damage against infantry (often a one-hit kill), but only at close range. In addition, 40mm grenades from the M320 grenade launcher can be loaded with buckshot. The M26 MASS is better suited for close range due to its higher rate of fire and similar amount of damage.Add a photo to this gallery It inflicts very high damage at close range, often a one-hit-kill, but its effectiveness is limited over range, due to its fast drop-off and low minimum damage. It is short and in need of expansion. Why not improve this section? It allows players to use a heaver buckshot load for shotguns and increases the lethal range of the weapon. For construction of paper cartridges, see paper cartridge. Top-to-bottom: Copper-jacketed bullet, smokeless powder granules, rimless brass case, Boxer primer. Reloading refers more specifically to the handloading of ammunition by re-using cases or shells from previously fired ammunition. The terms are often used interchangeably, as the techniques are largely the same whether using new or recycled components.Handloading ammunition waives the user off the labor cost of commercial production line workers, reducing the expenditure to only the cost of purchasing components and equipments. Reloading used cartridge cases can save the shooter money, or provides the shooter with more (and higher quality) ammunition within a given budget. Reloading may not be cost effective for occasional shooters as it takes time to recoup the cost of the required equipment, but those who shoot a lot will see cost-savings over time as the brass cartridge case or shotgun shell hull (the most expensive components) can be reused many times (with proper maintenance) before needing to be replaced.Hunters may desire cartridges with specialized bullets with specific terminal performance. Target shooters seek the best achievable accuracy, as well as the most consistent trajectories (i.e. best precision).

Shotgun enthusiasts can make specialty rounds not available in commercial inventories at any price.Rather than purchasing a special purpose rifle, which many novice hunters would outgrow within a few hunting seasons, a single rifle can be used with special handloaded rounds until such time more powerful rounds are desired and become appropriate. This use of specialized handloading techniques often provides significant cost savings, especially when a hunter in a family already has a full-power rifle and a new hunter in the family wishes to learn the sport. As with any hobby, the pure enjoyment of the reloading process may be the most important benefit. When commercial supplies dry up, and store-bought ammunition is not available at any price, having the ability to reload one's own cartridges and shotshells economically provides an ability to continue shooting despite shortages.Internal ballistics refers to things that happen inside the firearm during and after firing, but before the bullet leaves the muzzle. The handloading process can realize increased accuracy and precision through improved consistency of manufacture, by selecting the optimal bullet weight and design, and tailoring bullet velocity to the purpose. Each cartridge reloaded can have each component carefully matched to the rest of the cartridges in the batch. Modern handloading equipment enables a firearm owner to tailor fresh ammunition to a specific firearm, and to precisely measured tolerances far improving the comparatively wide tolerances within which commercial ammunition manufacturers must operate. They resemble a large pair of pliers and can be caliber-specific or have interchangeable dies. They perform one step on one case at a time. When using a single stage press, cases are loaded in batches, one step for each cartridge per batch at a time. Batch operations are performed similar as to on a single stage press, but to switch dies, the turret is simply rotated, placing another die in position.

Progressive presses hold all the dies needed, plus a powder measure and a primer feed, and often also include an additional station where the powder levels are checked, to prevent over or under charges. This way, both small and large primer pockets on different types of military cases can be properly processed to remove primer pocket crimps. Both types of presses can be used to remove either ring crimps or stab crimps found on military cartridges when reloading them. Reamers for removing primer pocket crimps are not associated with presses, being an alternative to using a press to remove military case primer pocket crimps. Both 6 and 8 fold crimps are in use, for paper hulls and plastic hulls, respectively. Likewise, roll crimps are in use for metallic, paper, and plastic hulls. Substitution of components is not considered safe, as changing just one component, such as a brand of primer, can increase pressures by as much as 3500 PSI, which may exceed SAAMI pressure limits. Reloading shotshells is therefore more along the lines of precisely following a recipe with non-fungible components. In contrast, shotshell presses are most often configured for reloading just one gauge of shotshell, e.g., 12 gauge, and are rarely, if ever, reconfigured for reloading other gauges of shotshells, as the cost of buying all new dies, shot bar, and powder bushing as required to switch gauges on a shotshell press often exceeds the cost of buying a new shotshell press outright, as shotshell presses typically come from the factory already set up to reload one gauge or bore of shotshell. Hence, it is common to use a dedicated shotshell press for reloading each gauge or bore of shotshell used.In contrast, the reloading of shotshells that are usually not available in low-cost, promotional pricings, such as.410 bore, 12 ga. slugs, 16 ga, 20 ga., and 28 ga., becomes more economical to reload in much smaller quantities, perhaps within only 3-5 boxes of shells per year. Reloading.410 bore, 12 ga.

slugs, 16 ga., 20 ga, and 28 ga. shells therefore remains relatively common, more so than the reloading of 12 gauge shotshells, for which promotional shotshells are usually readily available from many retailers. These smaller bore and gauge shotshells also require much less lead shot, further lessening the effect of the rapid rises seen in the price of lead shot. The industry change to steel shot, arising from the US and Canadian Federal bans on using lead shotshells while hunting migratory wildfowl, has also affected reloading shotshells, as the shot bar and powder bushing required on a dedicated shotshell press also must be changed for each hull type reloaded, and are different than what would be used for reloading shotshells with lead shot, further complicating the reloading of shotshells. At 24 grams per shotshell, a 25 lb of leadshot can reload approximately 472 shotshells. Stretching the number of hulls that it is possible to reload from an industry standard 25 lb.That this change has also resulted in minimal changes to scores in the shooting sports such as skeet and trap has only expedited the switch among high volume shooters to shooting 24 gm.Field use of the International 24 gm. 12 gauge shells has proven them to be effective on small game, while stretching the number of reloads possible from a bag of shot, and they have subsequently become popular for hunting small game. Since shot shells are typically reloaded at least 5 times, although upwards of 15 times are often possible for lightly loaded shells, this transition to field use of 24 gm.Fixed charge bars are rated for either lead or steel shot, but not for both. Universal charge bars, on the other hand, are capable of reloading both lead or steel shot, being adjustable. For shooters shooting fewer than approximately 500 shells a month, and especially shooting fewer than 100 shells a month, a single-stage press is often found to be adequate.

For shooters shooting larger numbers of shells a month, progressive presses are often chosen. A single stage press can typically reload 100 hulls in approximately an hour. Progressive presses can typically reload upwards of 400 or 500 hulls an hour. That is, a single hull will often be deprimed, reshaped, primed, loaded with powder, have a wad pressed in, be loaded with shot, be pre-crimped, and then be final crimped before being removed and a new hull being placed on the shotshell press at station 1. An alternative, somewhat faster method, often used on a single stage press is to work on 5 hulls in parallel sequentially, with but a single processed hull being located at each of the 5 stations available on a single stage shotshell press, while manually removing the finished shotshell from station 5 and then moving the 4 in-process hulls to the next station (1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5) before adding a new hull at the deprimer (station 1) location. Both these modes of shotshell reloading are in distinct contrast to the common practice used with reloading pistol and rifle cartridges on a single stage press, which are most often processed in batch modes, where a common operation will commonly be done on a batch of up to 50 or 100 cartridges at a time, before proceeding to the next processing step. This difference is largely a result of shotshell presses having 5 stations available for use simultaneously, unlike a single stage cartridge press which typically has but one station available for use.The reloading of such large cartridges is also much more complex, as developing a load using a specific lot of powder can require nearly all of a 5 lb.A three-die set is needed for straight cases, while a two die set is used for bottlenecked cases. The first die of either set performs the sizing and decapping operation, except in some cases in the 3 die set, where decapping may be done by the second die.
