Sherri W. 4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's a tad dog-eared, but I'll be using it to work on my Honda CR-V and will put it through a lot worse while I'm working on it, so why bother with paying for a new one. This is just as good at a fraction of the price.Hard to find this book in the store. Because the book is so old, and not within the last 15 years.Haynes would be much betterI expected it to cover honda crv 2001 as the title suggests, but brief look into the book showed that both engine layouts in the book do not match my car. Also cabine air filer installation was different too. I didn't check the rest.

My experience with this Chilton's type of books they are not adequite even to install security system, since electrical layouts in these books are very schetchy (I am talking about Chilton's Odissey-crv book I got later). They don't even have layout of stock radio, which is probably the most common type of work done. What's the point in buying them then. I wonder if anybody uses this type of books for engine overhauls. If it is as bad as their electrical layouts, what is the point to include that section. Amazon did poor job as well by not refunding me shipping charges for the book, while I clearly indicated that the book is not about what it claims it is. I guess this is the last Chilton's book I purchased, since the web is much more complete source of the information, for something which is not trivial just get the official shop manual. It certainly helps with the former; It lists a lot of different problems and most all of their likely causes.

The issue I have with it, is it does not give the clearest instructions on how to fix such issues. It assumes one has all the tools, and knows the technical jargon to fix one's car. If I, for some reason, had all the specialized tools and knowledge, but had never opened up a Civic before, this would be really helpful. Luckily for me though, since my car's problems had gone undiagnosed for months, looking through this book and slowly eliminating other possible causes myself (oil leak, water pump, radiator, fan motor etc) got us to the conclusion of a blown head gasket.Since then I've changed my own oil, replaced the stock headlight bulbs, put in different rear speakers(which is like a 2 hour job), and replaced a cracked driver side rear taillight, all on my own thanks to the manual. I'll admit it doesn't have the best pictures or most detailed descriptions, but I've done so much and learned a lot from this book. There are definitely jobs a professional is supposed to do, but if you want to do something yourself I'd recommend buying this book.Whilst many of them are useful for the same make and model of car built for other markets, such vehicles may have different features, especially in areas concerned with safety and emission control.
